Staycation
I love living in Austin but I don’t always get the chance to appreciate it fully. A few times a year we like to take our Airstream downtown for a nice staycation. One of our favorite places to park our Airstream is Pecan Grove Rv Park in downtown Austin. It is located on Barton Springs Drive near South Lamar. The location of the park makes it a great place to stay when we want to attend events downtown. This year we decided to take out camper downtown for the Austin Food and Wine Festival. Most of the events were within walking distance from the park but we also rode scooters to ease our feet. I downloaded the Bird app and road scooters to and from the park. That was a lot of fun!!
Juliet
One of the best parts about the location of Pean Grove RV park is that it is right next to the best Italian Restaurant in Austin, in my opinion. I took my smaller dog Halston over to Juliet for Happy Hour on the patio. Not only do they have amazing food but the frosé is also really good! This is a great place to get drinks on the patio or enjoy all of the delicious food. We returned to Juliet after the festival had ended.
Austin Food + Wine Festival
This is possibly my favorite event in Austin. When most people think of Austin festivals they think of Sout by South West or Austin City Limits but there are so many more festivals around town. The festival features many chefs, wineries, and distilleries all throughout the park offering food and wine tastings. There are also opportunities for classes and demonstrations from talented chefs. The festival is usually on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon in April. There is an option to buy what is called an “All in” pass and that gives you access to two more events at night.
The Fire Pit
The Fire Pit is an area of the park featuring live BBQ pits all weekend. This is where you can see all kind of food being grilled and smoked for tastings. Some of the food being cooked is from chefs at restaurants like Styles Switch, Leroy and Lewis, Contigo Catering, Hillside Pharmacy, and Louis Miller. This is my husbands favorite part because he loves to grill and this displays so many ways to smoke and grill meats.
“All in” Parties
Grillin N Chillin is the Friday night party at Auditorium Shores. Tickets to this party are included in the “All In” tickets. This event is a hands-on grilling session with chef Tim Love each person is given everything they need to grill a perfect dinner including food grills utensils and of course wine. This is my favorite part of the whole weekend! The party starts at 7 pm.
Rock Your Taco is the Saturday night party. At this event, some of the nations top chefs compete for the best taco. Tickets to this party are also included with the “All In’ package. Those who attend this event are able to sample all of the tacos in this competition. There is an open bar and live music. This party is the only one not located at Auditorium Shores but at Fair Market on E. 5th Street.
